Browns VS Dolphins

Our 1 - 1 Cleveland Browns host the 0 - 2 Miami Dolphins today at 1pm.  The inaccurately throwing Chad Henne will try to lead his pod to a win today at Browns Stadium.  If you look at the first set of stats below. QB Chad Henne leads his team in rushing with a whopping 85 yards.  That make me feel a little better that Peyton Hillis' 3.4 ypc so far this season. Coach Shurmur says he's not worried about the yards per carry this early in the season yet. Our offensive line is still learning to play alone side one another due to the injuries. Why is this stat a big deal?  Any coach will tell you, running the football wins you football the majority of the time.  If you do not have a balanced offense, it will eventually come back to bite you in the ass. We all know that the Browns just don't have enough offensive weapons to spread the field like the Lions or Texans for example. So running the ball while running down the clock and keeping the ball out of your opponen

Browns Begin Year with Another Loss

Yes this picture pretty much sums up last Sundays Browns' loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Who can we (the fans) place blame on for this loss: The entire team for having 11 penalties during the game? The OC for the lack of Peyton Hillis getting the ball? The DC and/or the veteran defensive players for playing circle jerk while AJ Green catches and runs for his first career touchdown? All of the owners and players for the lockout which in turn allowed less time for a first time head coach and his players to get to know each other? I could go on for days on this but either way we suck, so therefore we lost. I will give credit to the Browns players and coaching staff for making the correct adjustment at halftime to overcome nearly digging there own grave in the first quarter of the game.  Not to mention CB Joe Haden's outstanding play all day (5 pass break ups on the day). The Browns have a fairly easy schedule this year. The Bengals are almost as bad as the Browns,

The end is near?

I have to admit that I have not wanted to post anything because of the lockout. But since we may be nearing the end after 120 days or so, I wanted to let you know that all is well and my puny posts will begin here shortly.

What to Watch For and to Remember as Draft Day Approaches:

The draft starts on Thursday at 8pm. (just like last year). The Browns pick #6 in round one. In the early rounds look for a playmaking WR in AJ Green or Julio Jones or a passrushing LB/DE in Robert Quinn. Keep in mind that with the current lockout, free agency is on hold. Could it benefit the Browns to draft first this year, rather than woo free agents and then draft to fill in the holes? Don't expect the Browns to take a QB in the first 3 rounds. Unless someone falls dramatically like Brady Quinn and Ben Rapistburger did in the past. With needs at WR, DL, LB, and CB, I just don't see it happening. The Indians play the Royals at home that day, so if your are going up to the draft party at Browns Stadium, you may want to go up early (could be a little congested). If Cam Newton were still available at #6, look for Cleveland to trade down, no more that three spots to gain picks and STILL get the player they had on their "big board". No matter how many draft m

Mock Draft Crazy and Proud of it!!!!

A friend of mine recently complained that, and I quote, “Anyone else feel like following NFL draft projections in the months leading up to the draft is a little like shopping for a new big screen four years before you plan on buying it? I swear I just heard the 18 th new “first pick by the Browns” projected by the “experts” over the past three months”. My response to him was, GUILTY. And in turn he informed me that he posted that because of my numerous tweets concerning this very same topic. Normally I would be reluctant to point out one of my few flaws as a human being. However I love this time of year. Hockey playoffs are on the horizon, baseball season has just begun, and the NFL Draft is only three weeks away. The majority of Browns fans will not contest why people like myself search the “series of tubes” for sites that find ways to tickle my interest at what NFL teams will do while on the clock on draft weekend. Draft a QB, WR, trade, let the clock run out (2 years in a row

Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. With

Looking Toward the End of April.

Well, Superbowl 45 has come and gone. And to my knowledge, the Steelers having lost is the highlight of my NFL season.  Now we have reached that dreaded off-season where really nothing is going on until free agency begins, the rookie combine and then the draft at the end of April ( CBA permitting). Current free agent list by position Notable Cleveland Browns Free agents in 2011: G Pork Chop Womack, TE Alex Smith, DE Robaire Smith, QB Seneca Wallace, RB Mike Bell, FB Lawrence Vickers, WR Chansi Stuckey, LB Matt Roth, LB Marcus Benard, LB Chris Gocong, LB Jason Trusnik, LB D'Qwell Jackson, CB Eric Wright, S Abram Elam, S Nick Sorensen, K Phil Dawson. There are some intriguing (and possible) free agents that will be hitting the market. Names like WR Vincent Jackson, DE Mathias Kiwanuka, WR (recent SuperBowl Champion) James Jones, LB Barrett Ruud, CB Champ Bailey, CB Brent Grimes, WR (GIANTS) Steve Smith, LB Chad Greenway, and a slew of DE that the Browns will need to do some

When Does the Draft Begin Again..............

Well another year has again come and gone.  Nothing notable to really mention about this past Browns season other than Peyton Hillis is a beast and Brady Quinn is working security somewhere at a mall in Colorado.  Well, Joe Haden had a very solid rookie year and TJ Ward wasn't to shabby either (correct me if I am wrong but he may have led the team in tackles). Yes Eric Mangini was fired, so now here we are again looking at a whole new coaching regime. The team is going from a 3-4 defense to what will probably be a 4-3 scheme.
