Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.  But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way.

The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.  He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).  This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.  During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game.

2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks.
2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks.

Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

With the release of Rodgers and…….. Pat Shurmur made a bold move early this offseason in showing other teams in the league what direction the Browns may be looking to build with in the draft come late April. Wisconsin DE JJ Watt, Alabama DE Marcell Dareus or North Carolina DE Robert Quinn could be wearing a Browns uniform in the not so distant future.

  1. From Rob,

"The Browns need to take Georgia WR AJ Green with their first pic. Give McCoy a decent WR to throw to. They have a ton of holes on the D side to fill, but Green would be a huge boost to that offense.. If Green aint there and that Auburn DT is gone, I'd trade down and get more pics to fill the holes."

  2. From Brendon,

"#6 is too high for Watt. I wouldn't mind Dareus or Quinn though. If Green is available, I think we have to snag him. Also wouldn't mind Amakamura. Two lockdown CBs for the next 7-10 years isn't all that bad."

2018 NFL Draft Cleveland Browns Preview

***UPDATE #2*** Per RotoWorld and Jordan Raanan of ESPN: Rumor has it that the NY Giants are only willing to spend the 2nd overall pick in April's draft for a QB if it were going to be Sam Darnold. Read More    Browns also made another move in for the secondary by signing CB EJ Gaines. Read More. **UPDATE** As many of you have probably already scene. The NY Giants traded DE Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday. Really, three things could happen here. Giants draft a QB or Barkely. They could still trade out with Buffalo or another sneaker team that no one is aware of yet. Finally, and what seems to now make the most sense, they draft DE Bradley Chubb in place of JPP's vacancy.   Who will be the one? Just weeks away from the 2018 NFL Draft and our beloved Cleveland Browns find themselves again picking high in Round 1.  At this point, with the New York Jets trading up to the #3 spot it looks like this draft could be shaking up to have three
