I know some have you have given me the WTF. Well get over it.
With the playoffs now starting today, us Brownie faithful now turn our attention to off season departures (or lack thereof, how the hell our Off Cord kept his job I will never know), Josh Cribbs contract dispute, free agency, and of course the draft in April (where we pick 7th).
Questions on offense......
Although I wanted Brady Quinn to be the starter all season, the only flash of anything positive came against the Detroit Lions where the play calling was really aggressive and lets be honest, even Lurch (DA) could have scored at will against there porous defense.
Alas Brady is not the answer. And DA could only make one other QB in the league look good.....JaMarcus Russell. But do we draft another Notre Dame player in the first round again? Jeff Faine and BQ obviously have not worked out.
Jamal Lewis will retire, but Jerome Harrisons stock is on the rise. (man, saying that made me feel like Mel Kiper). And lets not forget about rookie James Davis, he was starting to make some strides before getting injured and being put in Mantarded's dog house.
For WR's, we drafted 2 in the 2nd round in Massaquoi and Robiskie. We shipped off Braylon Edwards for Chansi Stuckey and turned Mike Furrey back into a defensive back. So at #7 do you draft a guy from Oklahoma State that had dinner with Prime Time himself? And what role (if any) will Josh Cribbs play in the "flash" package in 2010?
And the defense......
This is tough to gauge. With so many injuries it is really hard to tell what we need most (other than a pass rushing DE/LB. And with Mike Holmgren now on board, will he want to stay with the 3-4 or move back to the once mainstream 4-3? Not that this would be a big loss, but FS Brodney Pool has had about 42 concussions since he was drafted several years back. His playing future is in doubt as he may need to hang up his cleats or face the future of being a vegetable after his next hit to the dome.
Hopefully in the next month as the playoffs end more and more of these questions will be answered and Mike Holmgren's next bath will be that of Gatorade......wearing orange and brown.
More to come, so stay tuned.
Cribbs is a HUGE key factor in winning games. Though we can see what Harrison can do we really need to get Cribbs.
