I believe since the Browns rebirth in "99, they have won only one home opener. Normally it would be nice to start off the first home game of the season with a win, but after over a decade of screw ups, botched hires, key free agent injuries, and uncertainty in the front office.....we desperately need a win today.
What we learned from last WEAK:
Peyton Hillis can be the man.......as long as he doesn't fumble the ball three times a game.
Jake Delhomme came back from last years form to throw 2 INT's and barely attempt a pass over 10 yards the entire game.
Our receivers so far have not impressed me what-so-ever. We might as well start punting on 3rd and long.
Jerome Harrison apparently was not going to be the feature back this season, making Montario Hardesty's injury that more potent.
Jake Delhomme is listed as doubtful for this week. (It's probably a good thing) Harrison had 268 yards rushing and 3 TD's against this team last season. Hell, I'll take half of that this year if all possible. DQ52 will be out again this week with a hurt boobie, and DT Shaun Rogers is listed and probable.
With Delhomme out, Seneca Wallace will get the nod with the first team "O' while the Chiefs are coming off of a short week with there late game last Monday night in a win over the Chargers. Right now the only thing that the Browns have going for them is starting a new QB against a defense that hasn't had a full week to prepare. Lets hope that Seneca is our poor mans Michael Vick this week.
Kansas City has some OK talent: Former Buckeye Mike Vrabel, RB stud Jamaal Charles, normal underachiever Dwayne Bowe, long time wide out Chris Chambers, and rookie safety Eric Berry.
Eric Berry was high on many Browns fans draft boards this past off-season. He was also high with the Chiefs and was grabbed just before our slot in the draft. However the Browns were able to snag up and coming safety TJ Ward who has more than held is own so far since putting on and orange helmet. Look for TJ Ward to have a chip on his shoulder today and play with even more intensity showing ever Browns fan that the front office didn't make the wrong selection in round 2.
Whats at stake for the Browns in week 2?
Not only still trying to find an offensive identity, but how will Seneca Wallace run the offense in front of the home crowd for the first time as a Brownie? Yes, this is only the second game of the season, but improvement and respectability are on the line. After today's game the schedule gets twice as hard and won't let up until our bye week.
