When Does the Draft Begin Again..............

Well another year has again come and gone.  Nothing notable to really mention about this past Browns season other than Peyton Hillis is a beast and Brady Quinn is working security somewhere at a mall in Colorado.  Well, Joe Haden had a very solid rookie year and TJ Ward wasn't to shabby either (correct me if I am wrong but he may have led the team in tackles).

Yes Eric Mangini was fired, so now here we are again looking at a whole new coaching regime. The team is going from a 3-4 defense to what will probably be a 4-3 scheme.

Meet our new head coach Pat Shurmur

NFL DRAFT 2011
Rd. 1: Thursday, April 28
Rds. 2-3: Friday, April 29
Rds. 4-7: Saturday, April 30

1st Round Draft Order (Browns Pick 6th)

Kiper (Mock 1.0) has Browns picking Georgia WR AJ Green-
The Browns need a No.1 wideout and Green has fit the profile since he landed between the hedges at Georgia. Green is a complete package, with size, speed and solid route-running skills, and he will be the best friend of a young quarterback as a player that's able to go up and take the ball away. Cleveland has some good pieces, and Green is exactly what Colt McCoy needs.

Todd McShay has the Browns taking Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina

This is a tough call. The Browns need help at receiver and would take Green if he's available, but Quinn offers great potential as a pass-rusher despite sitting out the entire 2010 season because of off-the-field issues and would fill another big need in Cleveland.
(McShay has AJ Green going to Cincy at #4)

If the Browns do switch to a 4-3 defense again, Robert Quinn would be a good start in building a solid front four. However with the play of our WR's (and lack of talent) looking at an AJ Green or Julio Jones may be to hard to pass up.

Yes its early speculation for the "big board" on what teams need what, and who is even worthy of a top ten pick.  But again for us Browns fans, this is what we do during the playoffs.

More to come................

Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure ...

The Pooh Has Hit The Fan

Its been about a week since my last post. But its been very difficult to write about something that isn't worth writing about. So what I am going to do is simply post everything interesting I have been able to come across during the past few days. Oh, in case you didn't hear, the Browns let the door hit the ass of general manager George Kokinis on his way out. AFC North Stock Watch Adam Schefter talks about Cleveland getting rid of GM George Kokinis and what this means for Eric Mangini ( video ) The BROWN OUT Eric Barton going on I.R.? The Ongoing QB Competition/Dilemma/Nightmare

I caught the following on a CBS Browns message board earlier today and thought I would share. Normally I don't take much from these, but there are several good points made. Enjoy..... I just got to see his press conference from yesterday, and it sure sounds to me like he has no intention of letting either Anderson or Quinn establish any kind of rhythem at all. Expect a similiar QB rotation to what we endured last Saturday night.....WHY? I understand that he wants to play the match-up game, but how can a QB get the feel for the offense if he's yanked every other drive? The two quickest to reason ideas would be: 1. Both quarterbacks are extremely talented and choosing one over the other is like picking Tom Brady over Peyton Manning . 2. Both quarterbacks are extremely un-talented and it's like having to pick between Alex Smith or Akili Smith. Personally, I have two views on the situation: 1. Mangini wants to create as much value as possible for Derek Anderson so he...
