Browns VS Dolphins

Our 1 - 1 Cleveland Browns host the 0 - 2 Miami Dolphins today at 1pm.  The inaccurately throwing Chad Henne will try to lead his pod to a win today at Browns Stadium.

If you look at the first set of stats below. QB Chad Henne leads his team in rushing with a whopping 85 yards.  That make me feel a little better that Peyton Hillis' 3.4 ypc so far this season. Coach Shurmur says he's not worried about the yards per carry this early in the season yet. Our offensive line is still learning to play alone side one another due to the injuries.

Why is this stat a big deal?

Any coach will tell you, running the football wins you football the majority of the time.  If you do not have a balanced offense, it will eventually come back to bite you in the ass.

We all know that the Browns just don't have enough offensive weapons to spread the field like the Lions or Texans for example. So running the ball while running down the clock and keeping the ball out of your opponents hands are key for Cleveland winning games.  This may be hampered today because Peyton Hillis has missed a day or two of practice with strep throat and Montario Hardesty still hasn't been able to prove anything yet since being drafted in 2010.

What worries me about today's game is Miami's passing attack (because of the lack of a running game). If you compare Henne and McCoy's passing numbers, Henne has just one more completion than McCoy, but has 162 more yards.  I've bitched for years that Cleveland has no pass rush, and today it remains the same.  In order for the Browns to win, we need pressure on the QB. As good as Joe Haden is, no corner in the NFL can cover a receiver all day and not give up a catch/TD.

Miami Leaders
Passing: Henne - 42-79, 586 yds, 3 tds
Rushing: Henne - 10 car, 85 yds, 1 td
Receiving: Marshall - 13 rec, 218 yds, 1 td

Cleveland Leaders
Passing: McCoy - 41-72, 424 yds, 3 tds
Rushing: Hillis - 44 car, 151 yds, 2 tds
Receiving: Massaquoi - 6 rec, 122 yds, 0 tds

*If the Browns win today, we will be 2-1 since 2002.

The Pooh Has Hit The Fan

Its been about a week since my last post. But its been very difficult to write about something that isn't worth writing about. So what I am going to do is simply post everything interesting I have been able to come across during the past few days. Oh, in case you didn't hear, the Browns let the door hit the ass of general manager George Kokinis on his way out. AFC North Stock Watch Adam Schefter talks about Cleveland getting rid of GM George Kokinis and what this means for Eric Mangini ( video ) The BROWN OUT Eric Barton going on I.R.? Odds and ends

On a slow day (although the day is still young) here is just a reminder and update on whats going on in the world of the Orange and Brown : Whispers from sources are saying that Rex Hadnot has had not a minor but serious knee injury. It's probably safe to say that you can put an I.R. next to his name. Don't miss Family Day at Cleveland Browns Stadium on August 9. Family Day includes the "Brown and White Scrimmage", which will allow Browns fans of all ages see the team take the field at the stadium. The "Brown and White Scrimmage" is a free, non-ticketed event. The fun starts at 10:30 a.m. on Tailgate Terrace and Alfred Lerner Way - where Browns fans of all ages can enjoy music and inflatables. Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure ...
