The Browns and There Relationship with "Jack Squat"

For the second year in a row, our beloved Cleveland Browns have done next to nothing in adding any pieces to the team during the free agency period.  They failed to move up in the draft in a chance to draft either Andrew Luck or RGIII. And now rumors are circulation during the owners meetings going on currently in Florida that the Browns are entertaining calls from other teams who would like to move up to the 4th overall pick in next months draft.

I'm going to be honest here. I continually have to tell myself that Holmgren and Hecket have a plan. If in fact (which we may never know, like the JFK assassination) the Browns did try and trade with the Rams to move up and lost out, but failed or didn't pursue a "Plan B".  We are left to wonder "OK, the Browns like RGIII enough to attempt a trade but like Colt McCoy enough to not go after another QB in free agency".

I will admit that I haven't lost any sleep since knowing the Browns lost out the Washington. With the Browns tack record of picking duds in the top 5 in the draft and other QB's that have come and gone since '99, losing out to drafting an unproven rookie QB while giving up so much, is nearly a sigh of relief.

So now I'm left with the thoughts that the team has needed a WR for some time now and there has been no indication that anyone was brought to town (or that any FA WR wanted to even stop by). The Peyton Hillis era has come and gone in the blink of an eye, and we have some dud named Hardesty to fill the void. The front office seems like it likes McCoy but only enough to get him through most of training camp until some 35 year old washed up QB gets released and we snag him up like a trophy fish. We released Eric Steinbach after he reportedly didn't want to take a paycut, so now not only do we need a RG and RT, now add a LG.

Heckert said he expects the Browns to be "significantly better" after the draft... (click)

Well, is it possible to get any worse?

My frustration does not lie with the fact that Homgren and Heckert want to do things the right way and build a team through the draft. It's that when we change coaches every two years and the new guy wants a completely different system than the last guy had and it takes 3-4 years to build through the draft, the fans get tired of the rotating door bullshit.

I'm even ok with the Browns trading down in the first round AGAIN this year.  However, lets not forget that the Cincinnati Bengals have picks 17 and 21 in round 1. Just a few years back they drafted a stud CB in Leon Hall while we got sort of lucky and were able to draft Eric Wright, and then last year they were able to get WR AJ Green. Not much more pisses me off on draft day when a rival team of the Browns sneaks in just ahead of the Browns and gets the guy i've been wanting to see spend his Sundays at Cleveland Browns Stadium. If we do in fact trade down from the #4 pick, we need to be compensated in this years draft and NOT beyond. Trade down from #4 to a lower 1st rd and then throw in another second and third round. This is the only way things can get better and quickly (since we cant seem to sign any FA's). With soooooo many holes to fill, we need lots of picks and fast. This team needs speed and talent and if we need three to four 2nd rounds picks this year to fill some of those voids, so be it.

Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. With

The Pooh Has Hit The Fan

Its been about a week since my last post. But its been very difficult to write about something that isn't worth writing about. So what I am going to do is simply post everything interesting I have been able to come across during the past few days. Oh, in case you didn't hear, the Browns let the door hit the ass of general manager George Kokinis on his way out. AFC North Stock Watch Adam Schefter talks about Cleveland getting rid of GM George Kokinis and what this means for Eric Mangini ( video ) The BROWN OUT Eric Barton going on I.R.? Mantarded's Master Plan ? The Browns should lose there Monday Night Football spot. Tedy Bruschi Defends Eric Mantarded. Browns Fans Say Owner Has Dogged Determination. Browns Owner " sick " about state of Browns, but won't fire Mantarded.

Josh Gordon: Not that difficult of a decision.

Josh Gordon is making steps to set himself up for reinstatement by the NFL. But do we want to see him in a Browns uniform again? He is still just 25 years old. He may be in shape, but is he in football shape? Does he actually realize that this is his last chance? Do we even care because the Browns will be lucky to even win two games this year? My thoughts (for what little they are worth), just move on. We are beyond rebirth again at this point. To me he is just taking up a roster spot from someone who hasn't screwed up 10 times and/or from someone who actually loves to play the game and wants to show up to practice and become a household name on Sundays.  Hugh Jackson and his coaching staff need to realize this and work with the loaded WR roster we currently have. Mold these youngsters into what you want and need and roll with it. Why: Because, Josh  has not played an NFL game since December 21, 2014 and has been suspended for 27 of his last 32!  Next time, I will start
