2018 NFL Draft Cleveland Browns Preview

***UPDATE #2***
Per RotoWorld and Jordan Raanan of ESPN: Rumor has it that the NY Giants are only willing to spend the 2nd overall pick in April's draft for a QB if it were going to be Sam Darnold. Read More

Browns also made another move in for the secondary by signing CB EJ Gaines. Read More.

**UPDATE**
As many of you have probably already scene. The NY Giants traded DE Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday. Really, three things could happen here. Giants draft a QB or Barkely. They could still trade out with Buffalo or another sneaker team that no one is aware of yet. Finally, and what seems to now make the most sense, they draft DE Bradley Chubb in place of JPP's vacancy.

Who will be the one?

Just weeks away from the 2018 NFL Draft and our beloved Cleveland Browns find themselves again picking high in Round 1.  At this point, with the New York Jets trading up to the #3 spot it looks like this draft could be shaking up to have three QB's taken with the first three picks. Browns are sitting snug again with the fourth overall pick and many are asking what they should do with there second pick in four spots. Hold that thought.

The consensus says that former USC QB Sam Darnold will probably have his named called first by Commissioner Goodell on April 26th. Many don't have much insight on what the New York Giants will do at #2 overall. Eli Manning is in his late 30's and hasn't really shown much over the last two seasons. So do they take a QB at this spot or is the stud RB from Penn State Saquon Barkley too good to pass up? The Buffalo Bills recently moved up in the first round who are also in need of a QB. Could they try to put a package together to offer the Giants in a deal to put Buffalo at #2 overall? Doing this would basically guarantee Barkley being available at the fourth overall.

So lets they the first three picks play out like:

Scenario 1
1. Browns - QB
2. Giants - RB or QB or OL
3. Jets - QB
4. Browns - CB or DE

or

Scenario 2
1. Browns - QB
2. Bills (via trade with Giants) - QB
3. Jets - QB
4. Browns - RB or CB or DE

Lets face it, either way the Browns have so many holes to fill that even Ron Jeremy is envious.

Scenario 1 would have Denzel Ward CB OSU, Bradley Chubb DE NC State and Minkah Fitzpatrick DB Alabama all available. Any of these three players would make an immediate upgrade to our defense. Could you imagine Bradley Chubb and Myles Garrett as bookends on a Cleveland Browns defensive line?!?!?!

Look I know that when the Browns signed Carlos Hyde to a 3yr $15 million deal it did simmer down some of the speculation of Barkley coming to Cleveland but the Jets trading up to #3 brought that thought back to a nice bubbling boil.

Could you imagine the following weapons that Tyrod Taylor and a rookie QB could have:
WR1 - Josh Gordon (if weed free).
WR2 - Corey Coleman
WR3 - Jarvis Landry
TE - David Njoku
RB - Carlos Hyde
RB - Duke Johnson
RB - SAQUON BARKLEY

I'm not worried one bit about Carlos Hyde's contract situation. Two things that the NFL has taught of other the years is that no ones job is safe at any point and Jerry Jones is a megalomaniac. So if Barkley is available at #4 how could you pass that up?

So who will be our QB at #1 and our pick at #4? No body really knows. But God bless John Dorsey and Joe Thomas.

Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. With
