Mock Draft Crazy and Proud of it!!!!

A friend of mine recently complained that, and I quote,
“Anyone else feel like following NFL draft projections in the months leading up to the draft is a little like shopping for a new big screen four years before you plan on buying it? I swear I just heard the 18th new “first pick by the Browns” projected by the “experts” over the past three months”.

My response to him was, GUILTY. And in turn he informed me that he posted that because of my numerous tweets concerning this very same topic.
Normally I would be reluctant to point out one of my few flaws as a human being. However I love this time of year. Hockey playoffs are on the horizon, baseball season has just begun, and the NFL Draft is only three weeks away.
The majority of Browns fans will not contest why people like myself search the “series of tubes” for sites that find ways to tickle my interest at what NFL teams will do while on the clock on draft weekend. Draft a QB, WR, trade, let the clock run out (2 years in a row Vikings, really?!) etc.

Indians will be lucky to finish the year at .500, so no post season for us again this year. Browns, another head coaching change with an offense that lacks playmakers again probably means no post season again this year. Cavs…..need I say more.

While listening to the Alan Cox Show the other day, co-host and Kent State Alum Chad Zumock (who is a huge Cavs fan) vented on his rage that the Cavs last few wins are decreasing their chances in securing the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft this offseason. Why would you want your team to lose? Does anyone remember how bad the Cavs where before we drafted LeBastard James? As bad as the Cavs were that season we still wanted them to lose every game so that we could have the best chance at getting the best player in that years draft.

Don’t misinterpret what I am trying to get across here. Each year I want the Browns to be 16-0. But if we are going to have a crap year, let’s go all out crappy and get the best possible pick we can.

Again since ’99 the Browns have had one winning record and one other season at 8-8. Not exactly something to boast to your front running friends about. But this brings me to my long overdue point. It doesn’t matter what sport it is, if your team sucks, you look forward to the draft. The draft brings hope to a team/organization that may have nothing else at the present time. The draft can bring a plethora of young talent to a team void of any and put them into contention for several years to come.

Redskin’s owner Dan Snyder please take note: Those teams who are close to winning look toward free agency, those who need to get to the 2nd tier, draft. Say what you will about Eric Mangini, I like what we did in our draft last season. Colt McCoy, Joe Haden, and TJ Ward all started last year.  If Hardesty would have not been injured who know what would have happened between he and Peyton Hillis.

So with all that being said: Enjoy

Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure ...

Browns Could be Key to Where Mariota Lands

We all know by that our Brownies currently have picks 12 and 19 in next weeks draft. There are probably countless ways that the Browns could pull something off where we add talent and depth to this team or trade away all there picks for the next 2 years and only have a spread offense QB to show for it. I say if the Eagles will give Chip Kelly the power to make crazy trades, why not try and take advantage of that? Move down a few spots, gain extra picks and just make this team better from top to bottom instead of just focusing on one or two positions. However I don't see Sam Bradford doing any sort of sign and trade to the Browns. He does not want to play in Cleveland, even as the away team. Maybe we could even pull off a trade with the Chargers to get Phillip Rivers. He isn't my most favorite player in the world but compare him to what we have he looks pretty good. Plus you could plug him right in and play from day one. From Draft Insiders- – Expect the talk of teams...

The Pooh Has Hit The Fan

Its been about a week since my last post. But its been very difficult to write about something that isn't worth writing about. So what I am going to do is simply post everything interesting I have been able to come across during the past few days.
