Ex Browns: Picks of Future Past

Above you will notice old faces with whom you may have a jersey of sitting in the back of your closet collecting dust. With names such as Richardson, Mingo, Manziel, Green, Weedon, Quinn, Robiskie, Little and the list goes on.

Like most red blooded Americans, we like flash, we like bling, we like sexy. Drafting D-line or O-line personnel are not these things. When your team decides to trade down in the draft and draft a center from Cal, its just not SEXY.

Draft me a guy who will suit up in the number 88 and catch for 1400 yds and 11 TD's in round one.

However...........

DT Leonard Williams could be a stud. Phil Taylor has been hit by the injury bug in each of the last three years and never really seemed to be the real play maker we need on that defensive front.

OLB Dante Fowler Jr like Williams above, the Browns will need to trade up if they would like him practicing in Berea this year. He totaled 25 sacks his last two years at Florida and if Barkevious Mingo does't kick his game up a notch, Fowler would be a great bookend to Paul Kruger.

OT Brandon Schreff from Iowa is a mountain of a man and can play both tackle and guard. This is the "non-sexy" pick I spoke of earlier. But if you can get a real quality O Lineman who can play multiple positions in case of injury is never a bad thing.

DE Shane Ray. An extremely productive player while at Missouri but his performance at the combine was a little less than ideal. He's been dealing with turf toe issues and probably needs to gain about 20 lbs but his motor runs high and I think will be a pretty good player down the road.

Again these are some possibilities, I still think we need to look at our WR situation. Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline are just short term answers.

Tomorrow, WR's TE's and QB's

Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure ...

The Pooh Has Hit The Fan

Its been about a week since my last post. But its been very difficult to write about something that isn't worth writing about. So what I am going to do is simply post everything interesting I have been able to come across during the past few days. Oh, in case you didn't hear, the Browns let the door hit the ass of general manager George Kokinis on his way out. AFC North Stock Watch Adam Schefter talks about Cleveland getting rid of GM George Kokinis and what this means for Eric Mangini ( video ) The BROWN OUT Eric Barton going on I.R.? Mantarded's Master Plan ? The Browns should lose there Monday Night Football spot. Tedy Bruschi Defends Eric Mantarded. Browns Fans Say Owner Has Dogged Determination. Browns Owner " sick " about state of Browns, but won't fire Mantarded.

The Ongoing QB Competition/Dilemma/Nightmare

I caught the following on a CBS Browns message board earlier today and thought I would share. Normally I don't take much from these, but there are several good points made. Enjoy..... I just got to see his press conference from yesterday, and it sure sounds to me like he has no intention of letting either Anderson or Quinn establish any kind of rhythem at all. Expect a similiar QB rotation to what we endured last Saturday night.....WHY? I understand that he wants to play the match-up game, but how can a QB get the feel for the offense if he's yanked every other drive? The two quickest to reason ideas would be: 1. Both quarterbacks are extremely talented and choosing one over the other is like picking Tom Brady over Peyton Manning . 2. Both quarterbacks are extremely un-talented and it's like having to pick between Alex Smith or Akili Smith. Personally, I have two views on the situation: 1. Mangini wants to create as much value as possible for Derek Anderson so he...
