How Does Johnny Football Figure Into This Years Draft?

With the NFL Draft fast approaching your Cleveland Browns are faced with another slew of challenges (and by challenges I really mean a giant shit storm of problems).

It is beyond obvious that GM Ray Farmer is clueless on how to build a team through the draft and all the corner office suits are so inept at there positions that we can't even get any decent free agents to visit let alone sign here.

The Browns are currently picking 12th and 19th in the first round. Depending on the mock draft the Browns could be doing anything from trading up with Tennessee to draft Marcus Mariota or just turning in a blank card on draft day.

For once, the Browns should only do one of two things. One: Stay at both 12 and 19 and draft the best available player or your "big board" at those spots. We basically suck at every position but LT, C, and one CB spot. Bolster your roster from top to bottom, add depth, play makers, make smart decisions. If the QB you want is not going to be available, don't force another to be the face of the franchise. Farmer beyond royally screwed us on Gilbert and Manziel last year. I can't even begin to gauge how may years this set us back...again. Two: If you are going to get an offer for the 12th pick to trade down it better be a good one. We currently have 10 picks now but an extra two couldn't hurt.

Getting Brian Hartline and Dwayne Bowe are OK additions but they are not long term answers and are not the "big play" bodies we desperately lack on this roster. Let pretend we are the Lions from a few years ago and just start drafting a WR with our first pick each year. Remember Charles Rodgers, Roy Williams, Mike Williams and Megatron?

I will say even though head coach Mike Pettine was far from the organizations top choice to run this team I feel he is the right man for the job. Too bad he probably wont last to year three of his contract because of Big Jim and his God Complex. Sorry I meant Jerry Jones complex.

Next post I will share my wish list for draft weekend.

Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure ...

Browns Could be Key to Where Mariota Lands

We all know by that our Brownies currently have picks 12 and 19 in next weeks draft. There are probably countless ways that the Browns could pull something off where we add talent and depth to this team or trade away all there picks for the next 2 years and only have a spread offense QB to show for it. I say if the Eagles will give Chip Kelly the power to make crazy trades, why not try and take advantage of that? Move down a few spots, gain extra picks and just make this team better from top to bottom instead of just focusing on one or two positions. However I don't see Sam Bradford doing any sort of sign and trade to the Browns. He does not want to play in Cleveland, even as the away team. Maybe we could even pull off a trade with the Chargers to get Phillip Rivers. He isn't my most favorite player in the world but compare him to what we have he looks pretty good. Plus you could plug him right in and play from day one. From Draft Insiders- – Expect the talk of teams...

Vikings Could Make or Break Browns Draft

With about 10 hours to go before the NFL draft, I feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve. I also feel like I could possibly take a trip up to Minnesota to kill anyone in the Vikings front office if they decide to trade there #3 overall pick, therefore blocking the Browns from drafting Bama RB Trent Richardson. In this very possible scenario, Tampa Bay which covets Richardson could very well put a package together to move up the two spots, leapfrogging Cleveland, and picking him forcing the Browns to go with plan "B" (if in fact the Browns do plan on taking Richardson). Minnesota is in a very plausible scenario where it seems that they will select USC OT Matt Kalil , However, they could also move down several positions, adding draft picks in a trade, and still get there guy. For a team like Minnesota who wouldn't mind adding draft picks this year. A trade could very well happen this evening. The other scenario could be the possibility that the St Louis Ram...
