T-Minus 24 hrs

The magic word of the day is......AXE.

The NFL final cut down day is fast approaching and rumors are flying around all over the league. All teams must have there final rosters down to 53 by 4pm Saturday.

With nearly no one notable playing at all during the Browns final preseason game last night who knows who could be left off the list tomorrow.

But lets speculate.....

First and foremost, Derek Anderson (from WFNY) If we can get a draft pick or another usable OLineman, lets do it. Last I heard was that the Patriots will only have two QB's on the roster by tomorrow.

Then the "Lets get a last look at RB James Davis". He may have single handedly extinguished Jamal Lewis's career as a Brown if not entirely. No one questions Lewis's heart or work ethic but it's that time in a running backs career where it's time to hang'em up. His burst, spring, cutting, and speed is next to nothing anymore.

If Lewis does get the axe, it will be interesting to see if someone a little younger with experience is signed. This would leave James Davis and Jerome Harrison the two lone RB's left on the roster.

David Patten....Last night was his first time playing out of the 4 preseason games. But he's 35 and so far the WR depth chart should look pretty close to Edwards, Cribbs, Furrey, Massaquoi, & Robiskie.

I don't think C Hank Fraley gets the axe for the simple fact that he is probably to valuable in that he has been playing some guard and it's still uncertain how rookie Alex Mack will pan out with the first team.

Check back often has any stragling info I find, I'll post for your pleasure. Such as a little Tweet update from D'Qwell Jackson (DQ52):
Being in the building is a constant reminder of how thankful I am to be playing this game..its tough watchin ur buddy get released frm team
Who's he referring to? Not sure yet.

Shaun Rodgers and Some Insight on the Draft

A customer of mine told me once one of the greatest words to live by some years ago. “Never let your meat loaf.” Back when I heard this I only thought of it in a sexual context.   But after hearing of the release of DT Shaun Rodgers this past week I was able to apply this great piece of advice from a half senile old man in a different way. The 10 year veteran had played only sparingly over the past two seasons.   He ended the 2009 season on the I.R. (as so many others did as well).   This past season sometime during training camp, Rodgers became gimpy and turned into the Lance Armstrong of stationary bikes.   During the regular season Mr. Rodgers was lucky to play 20 snaps a game. 2009 stats: 11 games played, 11 game starts, 36 tackles (9 assisted) 2 sacks. 2010 stats: 15 games played, 1 game start, 17 tackles (3 assisted) 2 sacks. Shaun's salary in 2010 was $6.9 million, his base for 2011 was 5.5 million.  Really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure ...

The Pooh Has Hit The Fan

Its been about a week since my last post. But its been very difficult to write about something that isn't worth writing about. So what I am going to do is simply post everything interesting I have been able to come across during the past few days. Oh, in case you didn't hear, the Browns let the door hit the ass of general manager George Kokinis on his way out. AFC North Stock Watch Adam Schefter talks about Cleveland getting rid of GM George Kokinis and what this means for Eric Mangini ( video ) The BROWN OUT Eric Barton going on I.R.? Mantarded's Master Plan ? The Browns should lose there Monday Night Football spot. Tedy Bruschi Defends Eric Mantarded. Browns Fans Say Owner Has Dogged Determination. Browns Owner " sick " about state of Browns, but won't fire Mantarded.

The Ongoing QB Competition/Dilemma/Nightmare

I caught the following on a CBS Browns message board earlier today and thought I would share. Normally I don't take much from these, but there are several good points made. Enjoy..... I just got to see his press conference from yesterday, and it sure sounds to me like he has no intention of letting either Anderson or Quinn establish any kind of rhythem at all. Expect a similiar QB rotation to what we endured last Saturday night.....WHY? I understand that he wants to play the match-up game, but how can a QB get the feel for the offense if he's yanked every other drive? The two quickest to reason ideas would be: 1. Both quarterbacks are extremely talented and choosing one over the other is like picking Tom Brady over Peyton Manning . 2. Both quarterbacks are extremely un-talented and it's like having to pick between Alex Smith or Akili Smith. Personally, I have two views on the situation: 1. Mangini wants to create as much value as possible for Derek Anderson so he...
